Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators RIP[1.14 GB]
On first inspection, Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators looks like a
typical space-exploration, combat, and trading game, only a lot more
colorful. Your job is to zip around the galaxy in your vessel, buying and
selling goods on the open market, battling pirates, and transporting
McGuffins from one planet to another. But it doesn't take too long to realize
that this fun and engaging game from Cinemaware Marquee and developer
Elemental Games is far more than that. It's when you're thrown into prison
and have to serve out your time in a Choose Your Own Adventure sort of way
("Do I work out in the gym today and bulk up for the inevitable prison
brawl?"), or after you encounter the bizarre intelligence tests and
pizza-making challenges, that you realize you're in a madly inspired
cornucopia of a game. Not everything works in Space Rangers 2, but it's so
varied and random that you find yourself having fun regardless of it.

This week Fileplanet's offering up a free mission pack for Rainbow Six 3: Raven
Shield. The new pack, available as a free download for Fileplanet subscribers,
was produced by the gang at Ubisoft's Casablanca
studio. It includes a short new campaign, some retooled classic missions, a
handful of new weapons and plenty of new multiplayer modes.
Not surprisingly, Iron Wrath's new seven-mission campaign focuses on capping
tangos and rescuing hostages. In this case, the context for all the action is
the capture of a variety of scientists who are being held in a variety of
training camps, dockyards and fancy houses. One mission requires you to disarm
explosives at a nuclear storage facility but the rest of the missions are
pretty standard in terms of your objectives -- in other words, just kill anyone
you see holding a gun.
Happily, there's enough variety in Iron Wrath to keep you interested. The range
of levels in the campaign is broad enough to make each set of firefights seem
unique. You'll find yourself fighting through different locations in Eastern Europe, from seaside docks to sprawling military
bases. In terms of overall concept, there's nothing here that you haven't seen
in the previous games but with Rainbow Six levels, more of the same isn't
necessarily a bad thing.

Coastal Heroes is Interactive Vision's fourth installment of their Search and
Rescue series. This time around you can control one of three real helicopters:
the HH-65A Dauphin, Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King, and the BK-117 C-1. Fly single
missions ranging from free flight with no objectives to rescue missions
involving full search and rescue. Campaign mode allows you to create a pilot
and start a career as a USCG officer. Fly missions creating flight hours and
points to raise your pilot in rank from Ensign to Aircraft Commander.
There are two modes of flying the helicopters: easy (more arcade like) and
realistic (sensitive controls) and the control setup allows you to choose your
type of controls from keyboard only to full flight controls with pedals. You
can select the weather (rain, snow, fog, wind, etc.), time of day (morning,
day, evening, etc.), start positions (base - stationary helicopter with engines
off, hover - hovering in the air at the base) and turn crashes on
(indestructible) or off (take damage) when you fly single missions.

deadly killing machines. Like its predecessor, Turok 2 is a first-person
shooter based on Acclaim's comic-book series -- but with less emphasis on
jumping and more on action and exploration than Turok 1. This time around, it
also will be necessary to go back into certain levels look for more items
(Talismans) and open up new passages, making for a better, less linear
adventure.
